KHFF Bloody Valentine Bash Double Feature
Join us as Knoxville Horror Film Fest’s audience-favorite Bloody Valentine Bash event returns with a sultry twist on our usual holiday horror double feature as we venture into deadly world of the Erotic Thriller! The night leads off with Gus Van Sant’s TO DIE FOR (featuring an ascendant Nicole Kidman toying with fellow future Oscar-winners Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck) before giving way to Ken Russell’s trashy romp CRIMES OF PASSION, featuring go-for-broke performances from Kathleen Turner and Anthony Perkins; we’ll also have trivia, prizes and more!
TO DIE FOR (1995, 4K) | Suzanne Stone (Nicole Kidman) is a weather reporter at her small-town cable station, but she dreams of being a big-time news anchor. However, she feels that her middle-class husband (Matt Dillon) is holding her back, so she decides to have him murdered. For this, she enlists Jimmy (Joaquin Phoenix), a high school boy who is enamored with her. The plan doesn’t work exactly as she intended, though, and her husband’s family starts to suspect that she was involved in his death.
CRIMES OF PASSION (1984) | In the early 1980s, British filmmaker Ken Russell (THE DEVILS, TOMMY) travelled to America and placed his unorthodox imprint on this crazed erotic thriller starring Kathleen Turner (SERIAL MOM) and Anthony Perkins (PSYCHO). Fashion designer Joanna Crane (Turner) leads a double life. At night, she is China Blue, a prostitute who has attracted the attention of a psychopathic priest (Perkins). With its outrageous script by gay screenwriter Barry Sandler and sparkling score from Rick Wakeman of the band Yes, CRIMES OF PASSION is a movie that could only have been realized by the gonzo creativity of Ken Russell.
