We’re celebrating the dearly departed Joe Don Baker (1936-2025) with two screenings of this smash-hit Southern cinema essential, which cemented the folk hero status of real-life West Tennessee lawman Buford Pusser for a half century before recent developments brought the crux of his story into question.

Sheriff Buford Pusser (Joe Don Baker) tries to remove Southern mafia corruption in his small Tennessee/Mississippi border county. The State Line Gang attacks him, his family, and anyone who tries to help him. Eventually, Pusser recuperates, and returns with a vengeance….and a four-foot-long wooden stick.
