TAMIS Presents 2024For April’s free monthly screening event TAMIS will be presenting THEOPHANY, a program combining two unique TAMIS collection items that relate to popular religious culture. THE LAST DAYS OF CHRIST, a circa 1970 Easter television special, recounts the Passion story with the tone, iconography, and musical motifs popularized by mid-century Hollywood epic films–it just happens to do so with a series of velvet paintings in a Southern television studio rather than a cast of thousands on location in a Mediterranean country. JESUS FREAKS…A NEW BREED, a late 1960s television news profile of a Knoxville chapter of the Children of God cult, examines the activities and personalities of the Fort Sanders commune, including their relationship to the counterculture of the era.

Central Cinema is pleased to team up with the Knox County Public Library’s Tennessee Archive of Moving Image and Sound for a free monthly screening event, alternating between regionally-relevant feature films and dispatches from their extensive archive of audiovisual treasures.
