I Heard It Through The GrapevineFREE SCREENING & SNACKS!

We’re marking one year of our FREE monthly Highlander Center screening series with a special presentation of newly restored documentary gem I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE, which follows writer/activist James Baldwin in 1980 as he visits key sites and figures of the Civil Rights movement. (Non-alcoholic concessions items are free as well, all courtesy of our partners at the Highlander Center!)

From Richard Brody’s New Yorker review of the restoration: “I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE stands out among [other Baldwin-centric films] for not being a portrait of Baldwin. Rather, it’s a sort of investigative film, of travels and encounters, in which Baldwin is a guide, an observer, an interlocutor, and a commentator. GRAPEVINE is a work of political history about the civil-rights movement—and about the ongoing failure of the United States to make good on the promise of justice and equality for Black Americans.”
