Cinematary 500: The Grand Budapest Hotel + Live Podcast

Directed by
Wes Anderson

Grand Budapest HotelThe crew of young cinephiles behind the Knoxville-based Cinematary podcast have been treasured Central Cinema supporters and collaborators since we opened in 2018, and we’re thrilled to help celebrate a huge milestone as they record their 500th (!) episode live on stage following a screening of Wes Anderson’s 2014 pinnacle THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL.

In the 1930s, the Grand Budapest Hotel is a popular European ski resort, presided over by concierge Gustave H. (Ralph Fiennes). Junior lobby boy Zero (Tony Revolori) becomes Gustave’s friend and protege. Gustave prides himself on providing first-class service to the hotel’s guests, including satisfying the sexual needs of the many elderly women who stay there. When one of Gustave’s lovers dies mysteriously, Gustave finds himself the recipient of a priceless painting and the chief suspect in her murder.

“Makes the best possible argument in favor of artistic fussiness, packing layers of allusions, characters, jokes, plot turns, and emotion into a film that carries itself with the lightness of a soufflé.” – The Dissolve
