Corman + Poe + Price Double Bill
The Masque of the Red Death (1964)
Our June tribute to dearly departed cinema titan Roger Corman was never going to do real justice to his vast filmography, but there was still one phase in particular we hated to leave out: his four-year, eight-film cycle of Edgar Allen Poe adaptations for American International Pictures, all but one of which starred the legendary Vincent Price. Now that spooky season is in full swing, we’re pleased to present two of our favorites: 1960’s series kickoff HOUSE OF USHER (adapted for the screen by legendary genre writer Richard Matheson) and this 1964 adaptation of THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH, sumptuously photographed by future auteur Nicolas Roeg.
$20 double feature tickets: Sunday October 13 / Tuesday October 15
The evil Prince Prospero (Vincent Price), a medieval Italian prince devoted to the pursuit of evil and the worship of Satan, enjoys the high life in his eerie country castle as the Red Plague destroys the peasant population around him.
