Punk Rock Flea Market Knoxville presents

Suburbia (1983)

Directed by
Penelope Spheeris

Join us as we prepare for this year’s Punk Rock Flea Market (June 1 at Hexagon Brewing Company) with Penelope Spheeris’ groundbreaking Roger Corman-produced social thriller, which gets punk right where countless other films get it wrong. Featuring cameos by TSOL, The Vandals and D.I.

“The best movie ever made about punks.” – Zack Carlson, co-author of “Destroy All Movies”

Evan and his younger brother leave their broken home in an attempt to escape their alcoholic mother. They fall in with “The Rejected” (aka T.R.), a group of punks who live as squatters in an abandoned shack by the side of the highway. With the T.R.s, the boys find a new family. But their new family will be tested when they become the target of “Citizens Against Crime,” a group of unhappy suburbanites.

“Shows enormous empathy and sensitivity in capturing the angst and alienation of American youth, making it seem both rooted in a specific time and place and strangely timeless.” – The AV Club
