Since we opened Central Cinema late last summer we’ve gotten a lot of movie requests and suggestions, but there’s one question we definitely got more than any other: “Are you going to show Mandy?” Circumstances prevented us from showing Panos Cosmatos’ Nic Cage-starring mindbender during its initial fall release, but we’re making up for it on Oscar weekend by finally screening our pick for last year’s most under-recognized film. (We’re guessing it’ll make a pretty epic double feature with Lords Of Chaos too…)
“The kind of extreme moviegoing experience made for midnight-movie cult worship.” – Entertainment Weekly
In the Pacific Northwest in 1983, outsiders Red Miller and Mandy Bloom lead a loving and peaceful existence. When their pine-scented haven is savagely destroyed by a cult led by the sadistic Jeremiah Sand, Red is catapulted into a phantasmagoric journey filled with bloody vengeance and laced with deadly fire.
“Cosmatos’ metal-to-the-max revenge thriller is more than just the sum of its deranged set pieces, choice as they are: Its slow-drip blend of hardcore pulp and demonic fantasy has a patience and all-consuming conviction that simply cannot be faked.” – LA Times
